Based on our observations, the ZenPad launch doesn’t not seem as imminent as it once did. We did see the ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580C) pass through the FCC a while ago, which had us very optimistic about a fairly prompt release date in the US market.
However, in the past week or so, we have seen very few, if any indicators that a pre order is starting soon. We’ve looked at a great number of resources that should give some indicators. We are basing this on an educated observation and it’s not just random opinion here.
When we see that Asus.com, the global site, along with just a few of the English versions in a few other countries showing the ZenPad product pages, that isn’t promising. We haven’t seen additional images and product photos which also is part of a marketing push. We don’t see support pages and the ones we did see a couple weeks ago have since been removed. We are also still seeing some MeMO Pad and FonePad models being marketed as recently as today.
What does this all mean? It’s possible that there is still a bit of leftover inventory that needs to be cleared out. That’s one possibility. The other possibility is that the production just isn’t available or far enough along for Asus to official release price and release date information.
It’s the middle of June now. We are certain of one thing, and that is the fact Windows 10 is going to start ramping up come July. If you want to see headlines get buried, just wait until July. Most technology sites will most likely be pumping out Windows 10 information. Having the ZenPad launch around the same time that Windows 10 is coming out, is simply not a great situation.
Beyond just Windows 10, Asus most likely wants to get their ZenPad to market before Samsung starts to heavily market the Galaxy Tab S2.
This all leads us to one question. ZenPad S 8.0, where art thou?
