Update: We can say with a high degree of certainty that the true hero model (stacked with maxed out hardware, most RAM and most storage) is going to cost $359 to $379 US. If we had to pick one, we will expect $369 US.
We would love to beat our chest and say we know the price of the ultimate ZenPad model, the hero Z580CA. At this point when nothing is official, we ask that you trust us. Of course when specs and details are not official, there is always a chance of being wrong. So given the following information, please keep in mind that we might be wrong. However, why would we want to mislead you, our reader? We’re not here to spread false hope!
So let’s get the technicalities out of the way first. One issue when it comes to pricing guess work is configurations. There are going to be multiple variations of the Z580CA. You will see different configurations depending from which country you are buying in. Some countries may not even get the variations that we list on the site. Because of this, there is a bit of wiggle room in terms of guessing prices.
To complicate matters more, even if we give you a price estimate in USD, you won’t be able to simply convert that price into your own currency. Doing that will not be accurate! The US market will see about the lowest prices, so you will have to increase the price when converting a US price to say, a UK price or India price. Consider that the US pricing is the lowest, add a percent, 10% to 20% may help, and then convert to your own currency. The increase though would take some analysis in order to make it accurate. We’ve done some of that, but certainly that’s a big undertaking because of the vast number of markets and countries we’re dealing with.
We can look at the Zenfone 2 and the ZE551ML model, the hero of that series, and it came with different RAM and processor configurations or “variants” as we like to say. Our guess is that the top tog, the fully packed Z580CA is coming to Asus’ biggest markets like the US and Canada.
We can say this will 98% confidence. The ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA is going to cost less than $300 in the US and likely the same in Canada. If we’re talking about the top of the top, the Z580CA with the 64GB storage, 4GB RAM and the fastest Atom processor Z3580, we expect it to cost around $300. Now it could jump slightly above $300, but we would be surprised if it did. A price like $299 just sounds good. In terms of our confidence in saying this price, we less confident with this model variant than we are with the next pricing.
We have more certainty of a Z580CA model with 32GB storage, 2GB RAM with an Intel Z3560 processor. We can tell you will much more confidence that it’s going to cost you around $220 to $230 in the US and likely Canada. It’s still a Z580CA, but it’s packing less RAM, less storage and slower processor. It’s still possible that if you max out the specs as suggested in the previous paragraph, that Asus would bump up the price by $100. In that case, a fully packed Z580CA could go up to $320 to $330. It really depends on opinion unfortunately.
So does this help? We hope so. If you live in the US, you may have to mull over the specs sheet to make a decision. Not everyone wants or needs 4GB RAM and the fastest processor, the Z3580. We expect there to be the fully packed variant, and also one with more modest specs, perhaps the one we’ve said that would cost from $220 to $230.
(Note: we are most confident in the model that’s priced around $220 to $230. We have two sources that we have relied on, but neither is what we consider “official” from Asus. We do think that you can and should trust us. The fully packed Z580CA is a less accurate price, simply because we have to speculate on what the price will increase when the processor, RAM and storage all increase.)
