ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) User Group – Tips, Tricks, Help

As we mentioned elsewhere on the site, we’ve been following Asus tablets since the outset many years ago. One of the best (in our opinion) posts was for the Transformer Infinity. What made it so special? It became a user group! It was users helping users. It had nothing to do with us, but everything to do with you, our site visitor.

With people getting their Z580CA tablets this week and over the next few weeks, it’s great to talk amongst each other. It’s a great place to compare notes and perhaps learn something about your tablet that you didn’t know.

So we can start the post here and see if this is something the Z580CA community chooses to use. If you’ve got you Z580CA tablet, we would be happy to hear from you. Send us an email with your review and we would be happy to post it for others to read.

So the floor is yours! We appreciate all contributions and comments from the community!

I just setup my 580CA and am quite impressed, so far. I do plan to email an extensive review later, but out of the box and after the initial setup, you will have an Asus update that is an update for the system and gives you a new build number. I use Nova Launcher, which could be the issues, but on the swipe to open screen the “” notice has brackets pointing left and right, so I assumed you should swipe left or right, but that was problematic and then I found that swiping up from the bottom of the screen works consistently. I also noticed that the tap to open and close is inconsistent when charging. I am still exploring and look forward to comments, from others. I am also looking for a root method.

    Hi Jim
I have a transformer and have been enjoying it for several years now. Wanted to upgrade so I just received my zenpad s 8 today. I can’t even get through setup! The buttons work weird and there is some voice that is annoying……tried to call support but waited on hold forever! I am definitely a technotard but this is ridiculous! Any advice?

    Hi Dawn,
Since you are in the initial setup and it is acting weird, I would suggest a factory reset and you can start the setup again. To initiate a factory reset, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the gear icon to get to settings and then tap “Backup and Restore”, then tap “Factory Reset.” Your tablet will restart and you will be at the initial setup screen again. Select your language and tap “Done or Next”at the bottom of the screen to advance to the next screen, tapping the right and left stored at the bottom of the screen allows you to step backwards and forward through the setup screens. This should allow you to easily manage the setup process. Feel free to ask if you have any specific questions.

Any trick to getting better battery life or any idea what might be sucking power down? I just got the (Z580CA) a couple of days ago and it immediately went through an update. They claim the battery lasts 8 hours, but I really dont do anything than Feedly/flipboard/email with it so far and that battery gets down to 50% a lot quicker than 4 hours.

Any ideas? should I do a full factory reset to reset the battery stats?

It may be another week or so. It’s really hard to say right now on a possible release date, but we’re digging around trying to get you the best info. Thanks.

Hi- Can anyone here help me? I simply cannot get my Music app on the Zenpad S 8.0 to work. I cannot figure out just WHERE the default storage is. It says internal and external storage but also SD card storage and SD micro storage. And EVERYTHING that I try and transfer from my Windows Media Player to the Zenpad seems to vanish even though I sync the music to the Internal Storage on the options.. PLEASE give me any suggestions thoughts or input as the whole music app stinks.. And the onboard Asus Manual is a joke. 144 pages of junk that tells me nothing on how to choose the default storage place. I’d like to be able to download/transfer my music to the Micro SD card, but it seems that the default is internal and then NOTHING shows up that I transferred. HELP PLEASE !!

uninstall the factory music app and download a good one from Google Play and all u have to do is download music file to your computer then plug in your tablet and transfer all music files to download file folder .

As a tablet is essentially just a toy for me, I had a very hard time justifying an upgrade from my Kindle Fire HD 7, but when I discovered ASUS released Marshmallow for their ZenPad line, I finally picked one up. Purchased a ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580C) and have had it almost a week now. Have been super pleased with this “budget” device. There are very few slates under 200$ that come with a 2K display. If you don’t mind trading off a tiny bit of battery life, you’ll REALLY appreciate the extra pixels. Great for the light gaming and media consumption I primarily use it for. Speakers (front facing) are awesome!

Only minor complaint is the aggressive screen dimming. The ASUS Splendid app is useful otherwise, love the blue light filter at night. I could probably game for an 8-9+ hour shift on a single charge! I’ll continue to buy ASUS devices if they support more software releases, especially Nougat and beyond.

My tablet is no longer recognized by my laptop via the USB cable. I want sync my music from the laptop and am not able to see the tablet . I have tried changing the USB cord and using a different laptop, but no luck. What to try next?
